Rules

What are rules made for? Technically, rules are made to bring order to chaos. Look at our universe, without the rules, such as Physics, then our universe would be chaotic forever. Thanks to physics we have order.
So, why is it that we want to break the rules or stretch them? The reason I ask this is because I thought about this myself to be the bad boy. Which, I chose to be my usual law abiding self, so don’t worry. It could have been so easy, but I took the higher road.
The second reason I am asking is that today for the first time in my career, I had to turn two of my students in to the police. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Granted, I have had the police come in and arrest kids before, but not by my doing. They were already guilty. The one kid had a gun in his backpack, so I am kind of glad they got him. But, I have never had to personally turn anyone in.
Since the dawn of time, we have had rules whether handed down by God or ones made up by man. Magna Carta, the Ten Commandments, the Bible, the Koran, and I could just go on and on with different forms of rules and laws. Why do we find such a fascination with bending them or breaking them? The sad thing is that I think I am feeling guiltier about turning them in then they felt about stealing. L
I truly believe in order and that there is a time, place and rules for things. Okay, I will admit it; I never was much of a rule breaker. I guess it had more to do with the fear of what would happen to me. With my father, I would have never thought of stepping out of line because I know what my reward would be. So, as an adult, I am not much for breaking the rules either. Especially since I am a teacher and hopefully a role model to these kids, there is no way I would do something.
Anyway, just watch your step because a mean old teacher may turn your sorry butt in. Ugh!!!

that totally sucks...sorry. but think about this scenario....instead of growing older and becoming a violent person, your intervention changes the entire course of their lives. in a good way, you really never know. i know what you mean, we hate to see kids in trouble, but the rules are what they are, this was not chewing gum or teasing some girl, this was BIG, you did what you had to.

Im sure it was a very hard decision to make. In that instance you also decided a hundred other positive things for the other students and other people.

Who knows what might have happened. People know to suffer the consequences. They chose to wake up and make a decision that found their way to what happened.
