Vacation (Part I)
As you may have noticed, I have not had any entries in over a week. No, I am not dead, in a coma, or worse; I have just been on vacation. My family owns a cabin up in Minnesota up in a very secluded area, so there has been no power. Thus, without any power, internet, etc. I have been unable to keep you up to date as to what is going on in my life.
To start, it was a very nice time, which was very surprising. I never thought the girls would be able to adapt to no power, no running water, and all the other things that go with roughing it. But, they were real troopers in everything they did this past week. I am truly astonished that there was very little fighting and that they were as well behaved as they were.
Okay, they were busy from the get go so maybe that is the answer. First, they got to go toobing as they called it. God only knows how they got into that water. They are Florida babies so when you are talking about 70 degrees for the temperature and the water was a bit cooler then that I never thought they would get in. It was so funny because they would get out chattering and purple lips but wanted to go right back in. I shouldn’t talk, though, when I was a kid I used to get into the ocean up in Maine when it was about 49 – 52 degrees in the Spring.
Then, we went down to Lake Superior for fireworks on the fourth of July. It started off a bit slower then I am used to, but ended up being a nice display. The girls could care less; they were skipping rocks in the lake, making friends and playing with glow sticks. So, we had an awesome holiday. I hope you all did as well.
The rest of the week was filled with more toobing, camp fires, s'mores, and so much more. So, all in all we had an awesome time. I actually got to do things that I haven’t done since I was a kid, either. I got to chop firewood, stack it and even make fires. Also, I got to make a set of stairs for a path that they needed from the campers to get over to the cabin. It was nice to see my years of architecture weren’t for naught. They did come out very nicely and hopefully will be my contribution to all of the things done up there by family members over the years.
Well, I will fill you in on this second week after it is over. We are now in Illinois, so there is power, running water and most of all INTERNET. LOL Hope that maybe I could rekindle some memories for you. Have a great one.
